Here’s Plot Device, the short film I directed for Red Giant to showcase the new Magic Bullet Suite 11

Here’s an amazing short from an acquaintance of mine who sometimes comes into my Starbucks where I work and orders an orange mango smoothie w/ matcha powder. If like this, you should also check out his web-series “The Time Closet” as well as “Adventure Now”. Very cool and often hilarious.

Greeting fellow tumblr-ites

I know it’s been awhile, but I’ve been busy working, which is one thing I know I’m good at doing!

Just wanted to take the time to mention a couple things I’ve been getting into as of late.

The first is a book called “The Steampunk Bible”, (see pic above, nearby) which I recently picked up and just finished a couple of days ago.

I don’t normally pick up books on a whim (read: I do this all the time), but I was reading an author’s blog and saw a post about it being released and I just had to pick it up.

I am a huge fan of Steampunk culture, fashion, literature, media, et al, so I was super excited for this book whose contents entail the history of the Steampunk movement, major movers and shakers in the community, literature and media, fashion, and DIY among many other topics.

If you’re looking for a bit of light reading (it’s about 220 pages in length), I’d suggest picking it up, especially if you enjoy all things Steampunk related.

In addition, that led to me picking up “The Rise of the Iron Moon” by Stephen Hunt, from the library which I didn’t know anything about previously, but one of the blurbs read and I quote

“Harry Potter mugs H.P. Lovecraft and L. Ron Hubbard explains it all.”

which was good enough to get me all excited about it.

I’m only about 20 pages in now, but I’m liking it so far so we’ll see how the story progresses. Hopefully, it’ll be a good read.

Finally, I needed another TV series to get into so I’ve been watching Northern Exposure since I was too young to watch and appreciate it when the series was on the TV before. There’s 6 seasons of it and I’m just now halfway through the first, but it’s a good humor/drama so I’m digging it right now.

In any case, what led me to it in the first place was that I had vaguely remembered a moose walking through town during the opening and that theme was written by none other than David Schwartz (who wrote the music for my favorite TV series Arrested Development).

anyhow, that’s what I’m into right now so I hope that if you’re looking for some thing(s) to get into, I’ve sent you into some sort of direction or inspiration.

Until next time…

Before I get into this, I should admit something about myself, which some people already know, or should if they claim they “know” me.
I have a problem with books.
Not that I have problems reading them; I don’t. It’s just that I tend to acquire too many books to the point that I just don’t have the time to read any of them. It’s overwhelming to say the least.
But we aren’t hear to talk about my obsession with having too many books.
I actually want to recommend a book to you fine folks that you all might enjoy and relates very specifically to my little predicament.
The book is the first in a trilogy (I’m on the 3rd one right now) called “The Polysyllabic Spree” by Nick Hornby.
If you don’t know who Nick Hornby is, you might recognize his work through a few movies which were based on his novels, the most notable ones being: High Fidelity and About A Boy. Incidentally, I also recommend those books whether you enjoyed the films or not.
Nick Hornby writes wonderfully and you can really get a sense of cynicism and realism with the characters and situations in his work. Like, if you didn’t know you were reading a novel, you might swear it was a real-life thing, or at least be able to identify with something going on in there.
I digress.
The books I am referring to, “The Polysyllabic Spree”, “Housekeeping vs The Dirt”, and “Shakespeare Wrote For Money” are essentially a collections of articles called “Stuff I’ve Been Reading” which Hornby wrote for a British mag called The Believer.
Basically, each “chapter” divides the books Hornby bought during the month and the ones he actually got around to reading. He doesn’t go into much detail about the plots of the books (other than the gist); it is more about why he read the books and what he liked or didn’t like about them.
All three books have fascinated me and I thought they were worth a mention since they aren’t Harry Potter so we all know everyone loves them.
See, Hornby has the same problem as I do. We both like books, we both like reading. It’s just that we both get so caught up in the “having” that sometimes we can’t get to everything or anything.
Who knows why I have this problem? All I know is there are worse habits to have than creating the best personal library ever, especially when it’s comprised with books that you know you love and books that you can’t wait to get to read.
But it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one out there that tends to hoard books and Nick Hornby makes me feel like it could be a hell of a lot worse.
Pick these books up and thank me later.

So today at the library, a guy calls the circulation desk to inquire about a pokemon dvd on his account. He says his name is “crofts”.

I say, “oh, like seals & crofts.”

to which he replies, “yes, I’m actually Crofts’ son.”

I said, “oh, awesome! I bet you never get tired of hearing ‘Summer Breeze’, right?”

He says, “yeah it’s not too bad, but it is a little weird when I hear it sometimes when I’m in a Walmart or something.”

This short conversation made my day.

For you music nerds, enjoy a link to the classic soft rock hit “Summer Breeze”.

[Flash 10 is required to watch video]

Here is a video I made awhile back entirely with my iPod, which I thought was pretty cool. And really, who doesn’t love penguins? The music is from Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind.
